The security became to the most important subject. So Microsoft have cared much about this. USB is a device for storage but it less security when it full of important files. BitLocker is a small program with power of security to protect storage device with password. BitLocker come with Windows 7 and upper. You don't have to install it. That why I said without any software. The step to put the password :
1. Insert your USB into your
computer. You can input many type of your storage device such as USB flash,
Memory Card, External Hard disk, And also your hard disk drive.
2. Go into your USB drive (Open
your USB).
3. At the top you click on tape Manage.
You can see in picture below
4. Click Bitlocker Icon.
4. Click Bitlocker Icon.
5. Choose option Turn on
Bitlocker
6. Click check Use a password
to unlock the drive. It is uncheck by default
7. Type your password in Enter
your password and Reenter your password box. In these two boxes you
put the same password for confirm that you type the right password.
8. Click Next
9. Now let save your password to a
safe file
10. Click Save to a file. This
step use for when you forget the password you can recovery you password by this
file
11. Save it in where you want in
your computer.
12. Click Next
13. This has two options. If this
USB is new choose Encrypt use disk space only. But if this USB is
already use choose Encrypt entire drive
13. Click Next
14. Click Start encrypting.
This process may take time so you have to wait until it finish.
Note: don’t remove
drive while encryption it can damage your drive
15. Click close
16. Finish
Use can put password in your usb in windows7 by bitlocker
too. But this step is specific on windows 8 user. From now your usb is protect.
Now unplugs and plugs your USB
back to your computer.
1. Open your USB it will ask you
to unlock at the top-right of your computer.
2. Type your password and click
unlock
This is the way to recovery your
password for the file that you save above if you forget your password
1. Open you the recovery file
that you save while you put password in your USB at moment
2. Copy your recovery code (Ctrl+c)
3. Plugs your USB
4. Click Unlock
5. Click more option
6. Click on Enter Recovery
Key
7. Past your key in box (Ctrlz+v)
8. Click unlock
If you want to remove your
password from your USB. I mean you don’t want to use password any more.
1. Plugs your USB
2. Go to Manage Tape and
Click on Bitlocker choose Manage Bitlocker option
3. Click Turn off Bitlocker
4. It will appear a box. Click Turn
off Bitlocker
5. Click close. Now your
password have been remove
